Schäferpfeife – A german bagpipe

The Schäferpfeife or Shephard’s Pipe is a german version of the bagpipe with two distinguishing ‘borduns’ which are tuned with a distance of a fifth or an octave, while the playing pipe allows for a range of 1 1/2 octaves. There are also german bagpipes with 3 borduns and other variants. A nice traditional instrument for our collection of instruments from around the world shown in videos and played by talented folk musicians.
